Lisa and Patience the Paper Dress Mattatuck Museum, Waterbury, CT 2011 |
|
| LISA CRUSE, currently known for her work in textile and fiber arts, is also a fine artist and muralist in Connecticut's beautiful northwest corner. A burning passion for color keeps her eye for design aglow and her hands covered in pastels, oils and, most recently, encaustic medium. She says, "I love having a studio chock-full of raw materials of insanely intense pigmentation for my creative hours. I never run out of new ideas!" And it seems to be true as this artist easily glides from one form of creative expression to another, pulling from her years of experience in colorwork and various techniques, whether paint, fabric, yarn or paper on her workbench. Fall of 2011, her paper dresses were a hit at the Mattatuck and she modeled her latest sewing pattern in a quilting book. When asked what is on tap, "I'm finalizing details on three hat patterns for knitting and sewing, gathering photos and notes for a book, also a new series of leaflets on embellishing and I'm messing about with luscious pastels when not troweling hot beeswax." When asked about future travel plans, she smiles and chirps, "I'm headed to New Zealand in 2013. That's a dream-come-true for me." ----- L.L.P., Spring 2012

Knotty Knitters Calendar 2011 Featuring Lisa, Ms. October |
|
| The KNOTTY KNITTERS of the Tacoma, WA, area have been creating a sensation and it's no wonder.
They'd rather be knitting, NAKED---for Autism, that is. They all dropped more than a stitch or two to produce a captivating calendar for the year 2011 and have done it again for 2013! Done tastefully in sepia tones with bare minimum knitted garments on display, each page is a testament to the fun that can be had when mixing knitting, friends and a serious loss of inhibitions. Not shown but quite in evidence are the big hearts behind this project which was sparked by awareness in Marsha's family with her twin grandchildren, Mollee and Josef, both of the Autism spectrum. Marsha Cunningham--- hats off to you and best wishes for another successful calendar.
